SolinoxThe Solinox is a symbol of Spiritual Humanism. It represents the Earth’s position in orbit around the Sun at solstice and equinox. It also symbolizes the common theme of religious reverence marking these events found in many cultures for over 5,000 years. Through hundreds of generations of human effort we have arrived to embrace the scientific method as the best path to learning the true nature of the cosmos. The four circles in light and shadow illustrate fundamental knowledge about our world that could only be gained through science. In this manner the Solinox symbol recognizes the scientific method as the best path to learning the true nature of the Universe and our connection to it. The focus on the knowledge about the Earth’s orbit symbolizes both the power we have gained by this path, and the debt owed for the toil of previous generations to gain such information. In turn it is our duty to make the world better for those who follow us.

Academy of Natural Sciences Fri, 25 Jun 2010 ![]() Despite the tragic history this is great place to start the discussion of the Law of Evolution (yes I have upgraded it!) with kids. Actually the bad history is just as important for kids because we as a civilization will not learn from our mistakes if we hide them from future generations.
